Dialysis Patient Citizens (DPC) continues to work hard protecting dialysis patients by opposing three bills that would threaten access to quality care if passed.
More than 468,000 Americans rely on dialysis treatments to stay alive.
Unfortunately, this access to treatment is being threatened with three bills, which may disrupt the provider network dialysis patients rely on and lower the quality of care they depend on. These bills are:
- Senate Bill 900 – Oregon
- Senate Bill 650 – Illinois
- Assembly Bill 290 – California
Specifically, we are concerned that these bills will cut reimbursement rates private insurance companies pay to cover dialysis care. These reimbursement rates are crucial to dialysis facilities because Medicare does not cover the full cost of care for treating dialysis patients.
Reduced payments may force numerous facility closures, especially in rural and underserved areas. As a result, many patients will be required to find new dialysis centers, some of which will be much further away from their current facility. In addition, less money will be available for dialysis providers to donate to patients that rely on charitable assistance, which helps patients better afford their healthcare costs.
We have sent letters of opposition for each of these bills and will continue our efforts to improve the quality of life for dialysis patients, but we need your help.
Take Action
Kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death in the US, affecting more than 1 in 10.
We need your help protecting dialysis access by urging your lawmakers to oppose these bills. If you do not live in these states but know people who do, please urge them to take action.
Stand up for patients by urging lawmakers to oppose this legislation. Over 81,000 ESRD patients need your support!
